Job templates

Job templates are saved job postings that you can post to the job boards with just a few clicks. Adding job templates to your account makes it quick and easy to post new jobs to fill positions for which you frequently hire. Posting a job from a template will pre-fill your preferences (like prescreen questions) and job description.

Creating a job template

The fastest and easiest way to create a job template is when you're posting a new job. When you post a new job, you'll have the option to Create Job Template when you select the posting status.

Choosing this option will save all your preferences — like the job description, desired experience, salary, and prescreen questions — in a template that you can quickly re-post in the future when you're hiring for this position again.

To add a template when you're not already in the process of posting a job, navigate to Settings > Templates > Job Templates.

Click the plus icon (+) next to Job Templates at the top of the page.

If you have at least one job template already created in your account, you must choose whether you want to Create Blank Template or Clone Existing Template.

Cloning an existing template is the best option if you already have a similar template saved and only need to make minor adjustments, but if your new template has very different requirements from your existing jobs, it might be better to start from scratch.

To create the template, follow the same steps as you would to create a job posting: Enter your Job titlePosting title, and Requisition ID (if applicable); determine the Posting language; enter your job Description; define the Employment typeDesired experience, and whether the position is a remote job.

Note: Your Job title is the name of the template and will not be seen by applicants. It is for internal use only. Your Posting title is applicant-facing and will reflect the name of your job as it appears on the job boards.

To further help your job stand out on the job boards, add Categories and Salary information to your template.

Applicants are drawn to job postings with salary information, and Indeed posts now automatically include compensation on every job, so we strongly recommend adding this. If you don't specify salary information yourself, Indeed will assign an estimated compensation to your job posting. Additionally, nearly 20 states (and growing) now require by law that salary information be presented to job seekers. Please refer to your local state laws to maintain compliance.

Complete your job template by adding prescreen questions and assessments, assigning a hiring process and relevant forms, and configuring the posting status defaults for your job.

Once you're finished, click Save to create your template.

Job title vs. Posting title

When you create a new job template, you will add both a Job title (internal) and Posting title (external, visible to applicants).

The job title allows you to label if a job template is specific to a location or position type. For example, you might frequently hire cashiers, but because of different preferences and requirements for each of your locations, you have multiple versions of the same job.

The job title will remain internal and will not be seen by applicants. To set an internal name on a job template, simply create a new job template or edit an existing template and input the job title in the first field.

The internal job title is used to identify the job template when posting a new job, editing an existing job template, or when filtering by job template anywhere in CareerPlug.

In the above example, the job title name is "Cashier - Manager A." Job seekers and applicants don't see this name. The posting title is "Cashier" — and that's the job title that applicants will see.

Note: Because job titles longer than 70 characters can impact visibility on job boards, CareerPlug has a 70-character limit for job titles.

Posting a job using a job template

Once you have at least one job template in your account, when you create a new job, you will have the option to populate a new job post using one of your job templates.

On your Dashboard or Jobs page, click the plus icon (+) in the upper left corner of the page and select Use a Job Template from the drop-down menu.

You can review your settings, adjust them as needed, and then post the job.

Making an express post

When you create a new posting using a job template, you also have the option to make an express post. An express post is the fastest way to post a job. You don't need to review your job template settings. Instead, just select the job template, the location of the job, job posting status (usually active), and save the job to post.

To create an express post, first click the plus icon (+) in the upper left corner of your Jobs page or Dashboard. Select Use a Job Template.

In the pop-up, choose a job template and click the Express Post button.

When you make an express post, you only need to select an offer letter, choose the job's location and remote status, enter salary information, and set the job's posting status.

The job will be Active by default, which means that it will be posted on your careers page immediately, and sent to job boards if you have a Pro or Premium account.

When you're done configuring your express post, click Save to post your job.

Editing multiple jobs posted from a template

If you've created and used a job template to make multiple job postings, you have the ability to edit multiple jobs at once by editing the template itself.

Edit a job template by navigating to Settings > Templates > Job Templates and clicking the Edit button next to the job template you wish to edit.

When you edit the job template from which multiple jobs were posted, select the option to Apply your changes to existing jobs posted from this template.

Note: Only when you edit job templates that users on your account have created will you have the option to apply your changes to existing jobs posted from the template. When you edit a system job template that CareerPlug provided, a copy of the template will be created and the changes you make will not apply to existing jobs.

Job template page settings

The following settings are available on your Job Templates page:

  • You have the ability to lock job posting configurations to admins. Some businesses want to give hiring managers a set job posting to use when they’re hiring. When you turn this option on, it will apply to all of your job templates.

  • You can disable, edit, or delete a job template. Disabled templates don’t appear in the list of available options when you post a job from a template. You can only delete job templates that you have created.
