Troubleshooting: Applicants aren't getting your emails

This article will tell you how to fix common email problems, including:

  • An applicant isn't receiving the emails you send from CareerPlug
  • The applicant's email bounced
  • You get an error when sending an email that says the applicant complained and cannot be an email recipient

Changing the applicant's email

Whether the applicant's email has bounced or you get an error that the applicant complained and cannot be an email recipient, you need to change their email before you can contact them from CareerPlug.

Follow the steps below to change the applicant's email:

1. Click the applicant's name on the Applicants page.

2. Call the applicant to get a new email address for them.

3. Click the three-dots icon.

5. Type the new email address.

6. Save your changes.

7. Email the applicant.

Checking email logs

Follow these steps to ensure the email was sent from CareerPlug:

Click the applicant’s name on the Applicants page.

Click the All Activity tab. Here, you will see all of the emails that you sent to an applicant through CareerPlug.

If your message is here, then you can be sure the email was sent. Try contacting the applicant another way.

If your message is not here, try sending it again.

Make sure that you click the Send button at the bottom of each email.

Simply clicking an Invite button does not send an email to an applicant. You must review the pre-written template and click Send in order for CareerPlug to actually send the message.

Contacting the applicant another way

Although CareerPlug uses one of the largest email service providers in the world — which has a very high email deliverability rate — getting into anyone’s inbox is not guaranteed, and certain email services are more strict than others.

If an applicant still isn't getting your emails, contact them via another channel. Try calling or texting, even if it’s just to ask them to check their spam folder.

Many of our clients are using text messages to follow up with candidates who were previously unresponsive. Text messages have extremely high deliverability.
