What's a hiring pipeline and why should I care about it?
A hiring pipeline is a pool of candidates who you've interviewed but not hired. These are candidates who made it to the final stages of your hiring process but who you didn't ultimately choose to hire.
It's important to maintain a relationship with these candidates — because you never know when you're going to lose your next A-player. Successful hiring managers don’t assume they’re in the clear after they hire a new employee.
CareerPlug offers two tools to help you maintain a hiring pipeline and make your next hire faster: moving candidates to your pipeline and passively recruiting.
In this article:
How to move candidates to your hiring pipeline
If you have any candidates that you really like but just weren't the right fit at the moment you made a hire, consider moving them to your hiring pipeline. When you need to hire again, you can go straight to your pipeline to contact these candidates and see if they’re still in the job market.
To move a candidate to the pipeline, follow these steps:
1. Click the three-dots icon to the far right of the applicant's record.
2. Click Move to Pipeline.
Note: Consider creating a message template letting applicants know you're not hiring them now but would like to keep the door open for them for a future position.
To view candidates you've moved to your hiring pipeline, click the Pipeline tab.
How to make a passive job posting
We recommend always having a passive job posting, which is only advertised on your careers page as a future opening. A passive job tells candidates that you are passively recruiting and will reach out when an opening becomes available.
Note: Though there is no way to pause a job posting in CareerPlug, you can make an existing job posting passive to temporarily slow applicant flow and give yourself time to evaluate your current applicants before accepting any more.
To make an existing job posting passive, follow these steps:
1. Navigate to your Jobs page.
2. Click the Edit button to the right of the job you want to make passive.
3. Click the Posting Status tab.
4. Select Careers Pages Only as the job post status.
5. Click the Update Job Post button.
Your job will now appear as "Future Opening" on your careers page.
