Sharing your job on external sources

What are external sources?

External sources are websites beyond the major job boards where employers post their jobs. A custom source can be specific to your location, your industry, or the job seeker niche you want to target.

External sources may also be called custom sources or manual sources.

Why share to external sources?

Having a paid subscription means that CareerPlug automatically posts your jobs to our partner job boards. However, job boards produce high quantities of applicants, but not always quality applicants.

That's why sharing your job on additional sources is a great way to attract even more high-quality applicants. In fact, external sources result in far more hires than job boards do.

Share your job on an external job board

To post to external job boards, such as Craigslist or Google+, click the Manual Sources tab.

Click the Share button and decide whether to copy just the custom URL to the posting or to copy the link and description.

The URL copied here is a special link to your CareerPlug job that you should use when posting your job on an external source. When applicants apply using this link, you'll be able to see the job board from which they found your posting. More in-depth instructions on posting to Craigslist here.

Share one of your jobs to a custom source

To post to a source that is not listed (for example, a local university or Chamber of Commerce), click Add Custom Source.

Type the source name and click Save. Click Share to copy a unique URL to use when posting to external sources. In order to drive applicants back to your careers page, you must include this unique URL in whatever external job posting you create.

After you copy the unique link for your job posting, you will need to go to whichever external job posting website you want to use (for example, Craigslist) and follow their instructions for posting a job.

Make sure to instruct applicants to apply using that unique link from CareerPlug that you just copied. That way, your applications for these jobs posted outside of CareerPlug will all still end up in your CareerPlug system.

Create a custom source for all of your job postings

We highly recommend creating a custom source. To do this, navigate to Settings > Hiring Tools > Custom Sources.

If you do this, your new source will automatically appear for each job posting, and links will be generated for each job. You'll still need to create job postings on external websites where you want to share your job, but this option helps you skip the step of adding a custom source to each job.
